After co-chairing the Kean Transition Committee, Lewis B. Thurston III served as Governor Thomas Kean’s first chief-of-staff when the Governor was inaugurated in January 1982. Prior to heading the Governor’s staff, he had served as executive director of the Senate Republican staff and as executive director of the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission. Mr. Thurston resigned as chief of staff to accept the position of vice president with the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority. He is a graduate of Rutgers University and has been an adjunct faculty member at the Bloustein School of Planning & Public Policy and the Eagleton Institute of Politics.
