Richard J. Codey served as Governor of New Jersey from November 15, 2004 through January 17, 2006. He has been a member of the New Jersey State Legislature since 1973 when he was elected to the Assembly. In 1981, Codey was elected to the Senate where he continues to serve. He was State Senate President from 2002 until January 2010 and it was by virtue of holding that post in 2004 when Governor James McGreevey resigned that Codey rose to complete the remainder of the four-year term to which McGreevey had been elected. Codey had also served as acting Governor briefly in 2002. His political memoir, Me, Governor?, was published in 2011 by Rutgers University Press.
