Gary Stein’s long association with Thomas Kean began when they met while they both underwent basic training in the New Jersey National Guard. Following the election of Thomas Kean to his first term in November 1981, Mr. Stein served as the Director of the Governor’s Office of Policy and Planning from 1982 until 1985, when he was appointed by the Governor as an associate justice of the New Jersey’s Supreme Court. He served on the Court for 17 years where he wrote over 365 published opinions. Following his retirement from the Court, he joined the law firm of Pashman Stein as special counsel. Justice Stein is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation. y and serves on the boards of Trustees of Valley Hospital in Ridgewood and Drew University in Madison. Justice Stein has also served as an adjunct faculty member at Rutgers School of Law – Newark. Prior to joining Governor Kean’s staff, he was in private legal practice and also served as the Paramus Borough Attorney. He graduated with a B.A. from Duke University in 1954 and a J.D. from Duke University School of Law in 1956.
