Bill Waldman served in the New Jersey Department of Human Services from July 1987 to June 1998. As commissioner of the Department from September 1989 until March 1990 and again from 1993 until 1998, he was a member of Governors Kean, Florio, and Whitman’s cabinets. He also served as deputy commissioner and director of the Division of Youth and Family Services. Waldman’s career began as a caseworker for the Essex County Welfare Board and included service as director of the the Middlesex County Department of Human Services. Since 2001, Waldman has been at the Rutgers University School of Social Work serving as a visiting professor, lecturer and executive in residence. From July 1998 to December, 2000 he was the executive director of the American Public Human Services Association (APHSA) in Washington, DC.
