Governor Brendan T. Byrne’s Appointments

One of the reasons New Jersey governors are constitutionally stronger than their counterparts in other states is their ability to nominate the holders of numerous offices in the state government. This power includes officials such as the Attorney General and State Treasurer, who are elected in many other states, as well as hundreds of appointees to fill commissions, boards, cabinet posts and other positions throughout government. The New Jersey governor’s authority in this area is tempered by the requirement for most posts that the State Senate confirm his or her nominations.

Clicking on any of the dates below provides a list by county and year of the people nominated or appointed by Governor Bryne to fill a position in NJ government.
